Album Review: Hands Like Houses – reimagine (2014 EP)

One word I can think of when listening to this EP is ‘Wow’. Hands Like Houses have definitely stepped up a notch with their reimagine EP and it’s obvious that the boys have worked extremely hard on this and it is without fail one of the most beautiful releases you can ever come across this year. The success they reaped from their last release, Unimagine, was incredible and with due respect, this EP creates an atmosphere that clears the mind and soul. It embodies intricacies that only one can understand when it comes to the power of connection and substance. It is the cathartic pleasure one hears when they inevitably come across something so meaningful, so true and so honest.

Although stripped from the elements of what could be a loud rock band, “recollect (Shapeshifters)” introduces the EP to an electrifying start. Trenton’s vocals eloquently weave through the sequence of the instrumentation. The guitar and drum sequences are sharp, developing a unique 360 experience with an underground and earthly atmospheric vibe. “rediscover (No Parallels)” is an uplifting and quirky number, with whistling incorporation and rhythmic control. The positivity from it goes by a mile and in comparison to the original, it’s gone through a complete makeover, making it a highlighting track off the record. With a serene and untroubling tranquility, “reflect (Developments)” closes the EP with an incredible build up; it’s a very moving track that will leave you close to tears.

Truth be told, reimagine is a moving masterpiece that has been compiled so thoughtfully by the band. The beauty of it is completely underrated and the recognition for it is truly well-deserved. It shows a different side to the band; one that not many can see but can appreciate it for all that it is.

Review Score: 9.0 out of 10
