Easy to grasp, unrelenting in its palatableness – the Brit-rock indie quintet has served up a safe sixth album.
Delivering on their typically loud choruses and drum breaks once more – For Crying Out Loud is what we expect from Kasabian. It’s music you could either jump a skipping rope to or down a lager to in the pub.
“Good Fight” is spookishly reminiscent of Beatles when you hear Tom Meighan’s voice talking about melted skies. “Are You Looking For Action” on the other hand shifts down into a very disco-retro kinky white platform boots and Saturday night fever vibes. The 8 minute long track encompasses Bowie influences with a hint of Daft Punk.
This is all well-timed with the impending festival junkets. No doubt “You’re In Love With A Psycho”, “Bless This Acid House” and “Ill Ray (The King)” will keep the crowds dancing and synchornised clapping – perhaps even a few lighters in the air or two.
The closer, “Put Your Life On It”, is a solid conclusion to a pleasing session. Singsong lilts, acoustic guitars and feel-good anthem rhythms paired with a dash of keyboards like a top up on the whiskey. The clacking of boots on hard wood floors is a nice, triumphant end to a hand on your mate’s shoulder ballad.
Unsurprisingly, Kasabian’s sixth album is unsurprising. This isn’t necessarily a criticism, just a nod in their direction. They know their fans and they know themselves, many bands will never know that.
