The Weeknd are probably one of my favourite artists of all time, and their new album has totally blown me away. With its pure creative lyricism and catchy hooks coupled with dance beats, if you haven’t heard this album you’re missing out. The first song “Real Life” hits us with real heavy synths then moves into a really sick orchestra section. The orchestra continues through the song and it gives some depth to what otherwise could have been a typical alternative pop song. Somehow the song moves and builds without really changing anything, it’s really interesting. The song has good vibes.
I am so happy I’m reviewing this album because otherwise I wouldn’t have found the gem of a song “Losers”. Featuring Labrinth (“Earthquake”, “Beneath your beautiful”), the beat is effortless and so is the melody. The song builds then slows down and then builds again, simply put: it’s a really good song.
“Often” is probably my favourite song of the year, the chorus always gets stuck in my head with its beat and seamless lyrics. I can’t say much more about this song except it is an amazing song and it should be on everybody’s playlist. This and “The Hills” are on on par as catchiest songs and are great to blast in the car (the bass is out of this world).
“Earned it” I have to mention because it was on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, and the sultry mood of the song totally fits the movie. “Dark times” with Ed Sheeran is a surprise collaboration and so is “Prisoner” with Lana Del Ray but both are equally as excellent, with really great vibes and catchy hooks.
Of course though the song you haven’t been able to escape “Can’t Feel My Face” is in there. Definitely the most pop but its pop without losing the real The Weeknd and hip hop vibe. It is so hard not to sing along to the chorus, truly an amazing song.
This album didn’t disappoint, this is just a collection of The Weeknd’s best work. Catchy hooks, excellent lyricism and truly fantastic beats.
