Announcing Ric's Big Backyard Festival starring You Am I, Pangaea, Die! Die! Die! and more!

Iconic Brisbane music venue RIC’S is proud to present their inaugural BIG BACKYARD FESTIVAL. Utilizing the courtyard behind RG’s and the upstairs and downstairs stages at RIC’S, the BIG BACKYARD is a brilliant space sure to create an intimate and unique festival experience.

3 stages. Outside, upstairs and downstairs.
21 bands for $75.

Plenty of people will tell you that they are Australia’s greatest Rock n Roll band. Some even refer to them as the last truly great band standing. YOU AM I take out the honours as headliner for RIC’S #1. Having released their self titled 9th studio album to stunning reviews in 2010, YOU AM I are, without question, at the height of their powers.

PANGAEA is a name synonymous with Brisbane music. At the crest of the 90’s alternative music explosion, PANGAEA are Ben Ely (REGURGITATOR), Dave Atkins (RESIN DOGS/WOLFMOTHER) & Jimi Sinclair (ELEVATION). RIC’S #1 will be their first show in 12 years.

Our friends across the ditch will be represented by the live juggernaut that is DIE DIE DIE. These guys have an International live reputation that truly precedes them. They helped Brisbane see in the New Year with one of the most talked about gigs in a long time.

SIX FT HICK are an institution in Brisbane Music whilst they probably should be in an institution, these boys are some of RICS favourite sons. We couldn’t put on this festival and not invite them to help create the appropriate shenanigans.

One of the new bands on everyone’s lips at the moment is Sydney’s GUINEAFOWL who’ve recently signed to Brisbane uber indie label, Dew Process. Each visit, these guys turn more and more heads and we are stoked to have them at the front of the class of 2010.

Fronting the same class will be Melbourne 2 piece, BIG SCARY. These guys showed a touring work ethic in 2010 that belies their Gen Y cred. Wearing hearts on their sleeves, they continue to be unmissable each time they are in our town.

From Springsteen to The Clash. Chuck Berry to the ease of a Jamaican Sunday. Melbourne based 6 piece KING CANNONS play with the live commitment of the MC5 before the outbreak of violent protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. It is music for everyone.

Highly touted local post punk 4 piece THE CAIROS are bringing their stylish brand of indie madness back to the Valley. Rolling Stone described WE ALL WANT TO’s debut album as one of the best debut albums of 2010 from some veterans of the scene. Their live show is as dynamic as any of the new kids on the block.

In keeping with the theme of RIC’S favourite sons (and in this case, daughters) as well. Local indie darlings, MOSMAN ALDER will be making RIC’s #1 their debut festival appearance. Last but certainly not least we welcome the brutal truth from local 4 piece THE MERCY BEAT soon to be a 2011 festival staple.

Phew!
