As The Getaway Plan approach 10 years of Other Voices, Other Rooms, revisit the album today

This morning, we learned that The Getaway Plan are to embark on a special Australian tour in September to celebrate the acclaimed Other Voices, Other Rooms album. Released in 2008, the band’s debut record soon landed a spot in the hearts of many alt-rock/post-hardcore fans and still proves a popular hit.

Thinking back on the album, it’s difficult to believe that 2008 was almost ten years ago now but here we are. We put Other Voices, Other Rooms on for the first time in a decent while recently and was transported back to the end of adolescence and the first years of adulthood – what a soundtrack it proved to be.

For The Getaway Plan, the album saw them work with renowned producer James Wisner who at the time, had already produced seminal bands in The Academy Is…Dashboard Confessional and more. For Melbourne’s The Getaway Plan, it was a massive step into the spotlight and the final result proved that they were a band deserving of it.

Spawning three popular single releases in “Streetlight”, “Shadows” and of course, “Where The City Meets The Sea”, Other Voices, Other Rooms stood strong at 11 tracks long – a rollercoaster of guitars, percussion and keys woven around Matthew Wright‘s passionate vocals and words.

An earnest record that showed us a young band with a lot of promise, Other Voices, Other Rooms has remained a classic because it is now steeped in brilliant nostalgia but also remains a hallmark of a record that launched The Getaway Plan into the hearts of many Australian music fans – a bond that still continues today.
