Sydney’s Bad Pony are going to be America bound early next year, landing a showcase spot at SXSW in March – the achievement is just one box ticked for the group in recent months. Taking out the Studios 301 Music Prize as part of this year’s Australian Music Week, the Bad Pony crew have simply been racking up all the good things.
In winning the Studios 301 Music Prize, the band have come away with the opportunity to record, produce mix and master a single at the studios, receive distribution via MGM as well as servicing by John Zucco (The Right Profile) as well as showcase opportunities at both AMW and the Hi-Fi Days Festival, just to name a few of the goodies.
Which brings us to the latest Bad Pony tune, “Half Blood”. We’ve already gotten inklings of the darker, musically richer direction the band has been heading in over the course of recent shows and previous releases this year, but “Half Blood” is a prime example of this band operating at their peak energies at the moment. The music video captures the band in their element; thrashing with awesome abandon.
“The way we play live is pretty unique and we have a shitload of fun doing it,” drummer and vocalist Jarred Young has explained. “We wanted to make sure that came across with Half Blood.”
With SXSW set to be here before we know it, Bad Pony are continuing to refine their live presence with shows extending into December – don’t miss ’em.
