Brisbane alt-rockers Call The Mourning just released their brand new single “Agonal“, and it’s scratching a deliciously dark nineties-grunge-meets-noughties-metal itch we didn’t even know we had.
Formed from the ashes of previous project Lunchtime, singer/guitarist Constance Grafos and drummer Dominic Willimott teamed with bassist Lachie Grumley to create Call The Mourning. Gigging regularly around the River City and pulling inspiration from across alternative, emo, metal, and more, the band cites the likes of Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, Alter Bridge, Linkin Park, and Placebo amongst their varied influences.
The word “Agonal” means “relating to, or associated with, the act of dying”, so it’s unsurprising that the track itself came from a less than happy place. Grafos says:
“In my late teens/early 20’s I went through some stuff and then later got diagnosed with BPD, C-PTSD, and severe depression. So “Agonal” is sort of me trying to explain how I was feeling during that time. Essentially, we are exploring loss and betrayal through the lens of someone dealing with mental illness.”
With an addictive blend of big riffs, background screams, and Grafos’ vulnerable vocals, this track gets better with every listen – give it a spin below!
