Formerly known as Origin NYE, 2018 is the 12th year of the Western Australian festival and a score of changes are planned. As well as a new name, the festival now has a new location and is expanding to a two day music and culture festival with the announcement of their largest lineup to date.
Now called Origin Fields, the first lineup announcement names some of the biggest rap musicians in the world right now. In her first visit to Australia, Cardi B tops the lineup with rap collective Migos. For both artists, their appearances at Origin Fields are billed as one of only two in Australia and since Falls Festival is a multi-day and multi-city event we can effectively rule that out as their other appearance – perhaps Sydney will be lucky enough to see the two acts at Field Day on January 1st?
Support from triple j is also new in 2018 so the rest of the impressive lineup boasts artists that are high on rotation on the j’s airwaves. Khalid, who is fresh off an exclusive Splendour in the Grass set this past August is again exclusive to this festival so fans will have to wait a little longer before he backs-up his successful 2017 tour. The Kooks, Pendulum (Live), Tash Sultana, Duke Dumont, Winston Surfshirt and PNAU have also been announced to grace the stage over December 30th and 31st in the new scenic foreshore spot of Langley Park.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday, August 21st at 6pm WST. For more information on the festival you can head HERE.
