Claudio Sanchez on travel and the new Coheed and Cambria album, The Color Before the Sun

In Australia for their highly anticipated national tour, Coheed and Cambria have brought a hectic show with them. Performing tunes from their new album, the band’s eighth, The Color Before the Sun, as well as cuts from over their acclaimed seven-album strong career, the iconic US group isn’t resting on any laurels. They’re here to deliver.

Band founder and songwriter Claudio Sanchez sat down with Larry in Sydney yesterday to chat about the album ahead of the band’s show at the Metro Theatre, particularly the fact that it’s the first non-conceptual Coheed and Cambria album.

“For me, there’s something special about these new songs that when we play them, they do feel different, in terms of my participation.” Sanchez says. “As far as them as songs within the discography of what Coheed and Cambria does, they do fit nicely. They do feel different to me, just because of what they’re about and what they mean to me.”

“These songs have always come from a very personal place, but I just always decided, ‘Why not mask them with a concept?’. This time around, they are very open. They’re allowed to speak for themselves.”
