Cult favourites SPARKS make their Sydney Opera House debut

In a world tour that has included venues like the Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, and Glastonbury Festival, the masters of pop Sparks are set to add another monumental venue to their tour- the Sydney Opera House.

Californian brothers Ron and Russel Mael since the 70s have been pioneering the sound of pop music. In their genre-defying, pioneering sound their repertoire crosses art rock, glam, electro, new wave and baroque-pop.

First breaking through to the public consciousness with their hit “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both Of Us”, Sparks have remained relevant and influential in contemporary music for over 50 years. Winning newer audiences with their recent globally acclaimed albums Hippopotamus and A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip along with their award-winning musical movie “Annette”, they kicked off this world tour with the release of their 26th studio album The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte.

“We’ve played many iconic venues this year and now we’re happy to add the Sydney Opera House to that list.” – Sparks

This enigmatic outfit have created their own unforgettable brand of experimental and bold artistry traversing music, performance and film. The timing is not coincidental. Sparks have been invited for a special reason.

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome art-rock heroes Sparks for their first-ever show at the Sydney Opera House this October as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. Currently surfing an all-time career high after more than 50 years of ambitious, uncompromising pop music, the enigmatic Mael brothers have lost none of their melodic brilliance or humour and this performance in the Concert Hall promises to be one for the ages,” said Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall.

If you are in Melbourne or Brisbane, you can catch them on the 26th October and 2nd November respectively.  They will also be performing at Harvest Rock.
