The internet’s favourite motivational snapper DJ Khaled is just about ready to unleash his new record Major Key which will no doubt be packed full of airwave-dominating tracks like previous hits “I’m On One” and “No New Friends”. Like those two tracks, Khaled has brought on none other than Drake to ride solo over the bubbly, vintage production which cribs from Too Short’s “Blow the Whistle, equally braggadocios but just as infectious.
OVO’s Nineteen85 and Jordan Ullman (of Majid Jordan handled the production on this one, which is why it’s drenched in that watery 80’s pop sound that puts it in-line with “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and “Feel No Ways”, albeit more rap-focused.
Khaled has been hyping this one up for a few days via social media, confident in it’s guaranteed success, and there’s absolutely zero doubt that this one will be going down as one of the year’s biggest “summer” (even though it’s winter down in Australia right now) anthems. The very well-connected producer has also hinted at a forthcoming Jay Z and Future record which has also been taken from Major Keys, building anticipation by promising a Hov circa Reasonable Doubt (fitting, seeing as the 20th anniversary of Jay’s classic debut is coming up) spitting multiple verses. We’ll believe it when we hear it.
For now, take a listen to “For Free” below. If the stream is down you can hear it over HERE.
