Drummer Dan Presland of Ne Obliviscaris (Melbourne) Presents His 5 Favourite Albums (Right Now)!

Hailing from Melbourne, Ne Obliviscaris‘ drummer, Dan Presland, is busy getting ready for a massive tour to celebrate their brand new album Citadel, out on Friday. Plus they’re playing Soundwave in the New Year! But he kindly caught up with the AU to deliver his top 5 albums right now. Counting down from 5…

5. Hadal Maw’s Seniun

Really enjoying this new release from local Melbourne heavy band Hadal Maw. A really interesting play on rhythm with crushing guitars. A phenomenal release for a debut. I really enjoy this one as the whole album flows extremely well, and every member knows and executes their role perfectly.

4. Beyond Creation’s Earthborn Evolution

This new album is really catchy, and all the guys are killer at their respective instruments. This release has a lot of prog elements as well as some pretty extreme tech death stuff going on too. These guys are on tour with us throughout the end of November and we can’t wait to hit the road with this killer band!

3. Tool’s Lateralus

I’ve been a huge Tool fan since I was pretty young, and Danny Carey has been on of my biggest influences on drums since I first picked up the sticks. This will forever be one of my all time favorite records without a doubt. The flow and eloquence of this album for me is brilliant. A really interesting and inspiring band that have done no bad to this date. Really anticipating their new record a lot also.

2. Strapping Young Lad’s City

An all time classic. One of the first really extreme heavy albums I got into as a kid. Was blown away by how heavy and crushing everything was. Have been spinning this again lately and it’s hard to think this came out in 1997. Gene Hoglan has also been a hefty influence on the drums for me, and this album is one of his classic performances. Thrashy, heavy, and soulful.

1. Hate Eternal’s I, Monarch

This is the pinnacle of extreme modern music for me. Derek Roddy’s drumming performance on this inspired me like no other. A fresh approach to modern extreme drumming with taste and flair. I have been spinning this record recently and it’s crazy to think it’s now 9 years old. An awesome analogue production, and the whole album is full of killer tracks and moments. I don’t think this one will ever get old.
