DZ Deathrays finish the “Black Rat” tour in Adelaide hot and sweaty

DZ Deathrays

DZ Deathrays have been performing their brand of hard rock for around sixteen years now. It’s been ten years since the release of the album Black Rat, so what better excuse to tour the country. While the album was released by Simon Ridley and Shane Parsons as a  duo, they’ve since added Lachlan Ewbank to the band and Luke Henery as a touring bass guitarist.

As a warmup band, local band Placement were a great choice. The fresh jangly noise-rock was a wakeup call to those lingering in the beer garden. A great way to get people up and dancing ready for the main act.

Next up, Lola was absolute fire. Their no-nonsense punk rock vibe was the perfect way to amp up the energy even more. They’re definitely  band to watch, with recent gigs at the Beer and BBQ fest and supporting the bennies going down a treat.

By the time that DZ hit the stage, the energy levels were off the scale and the crowd became a solid heaving mass of bodies. Opening with “Black Rat” and featuring songs such as “Gina Works at Hearts”, “Reflective Skull” and “Northern Lights” it was a truly memorable evening. After a short break Simon and Shane came back to perform “The Mess Up” and “Gebbie Street” to show what a powerhouse this pair really are. Finishing (almost) with “Shred For Summer” and a bonus track they truly gave a solid performance.
