Cone of Confusion is a Sydney-based space jazz collective. They released their debut self-titled album in 2019, and this year have teased out a couple of singles, namely “The Last Dystopian” and “The First Utopian”. We are thrilled today to be premiering their follow-up long-play record, Hominid, ahead of its release on Friday.
The group brings with them a broad range of backgrounds and influences. From classical to jazz to reggae and psychedelia, each of these influences permeates throughout the record.
Though their influences are varied and broad, there is a commonality that binds them, as bandleader Rémi Marchand explains:
“Being hominids is what connects us together and to other animal species, it stimulates imagination of our journey from a prehistoric era to the future of humanity. For us, Hominid captured a moment in our lives as we reunited with Adam (Weisser), who lives overseas, for our debut album launch. We took on the opportunity to go into the studio with Jack (Garzonio) once again on board for the production. We had two compositions ready to record and through improvisation, we produced six extra tracks during the extra time in session.
The variety in tastes and styles of each member is what brings us together and enabled us to transcend the moment, distilling our differences into a signature sound.”
Cone of Confusion will be launching their album Hominid at Waywards on Friday 28th October. You can purchase tickets HERE
The album is a glorious psychedelic kaleidoscope of influences. Do give it your full attention.
