Exclusive Album Premiere: The Little Lord Street Band – A Minute Of Another Day (2020 LP)

The Little Lord Street Band

This week sees the release of A Minute of Another Day, the much anticipated debut album from Perth alt-country folk group The Little Lord Street Band. The album, which officially releases tomorrow, is a mixed bag of songs that crisscrosses the genres and highlights the songwriting talents of both James Rogers and Natasha Shanks. We’re big fans of the band here at the AU, and we’re incredibly excited to bring you the exclusive premiere of the album today.

The album began to take shape back between 2017 and 2018, with several of the album tracks written in collaboration with fellow WA songwriter Bri Clark. Clark also pops up on keyboards and vocals on a couple of the album tracks too. Following a period of finessing and pre-production, the group, which includes Michael Savage (Bass), Alex Megaw (Drums), and Belle Harvey (Mandolin/Harmonica), headed into Rada Studios with Dan Carroll in early 2019 to lay down the ten tracks that make up the album.

The group are releasing the album into a very different world to when the album was recorded. And, yet so much of the album feels incredibly timely, and touches on so many subjects that really resonate right now. It’s also a fantastic balm for the uncertain world we all find ourselves in. It’s hard not to get drawn into the album’s often emotional and passionate songwriting. There’s a song for practically any mood, with the album touching on themes of love, loss, anxiety, depression, as well as social awakenings and changes.

Often an album that shifts through so many different genres and styles is the symptom of something going wrong. An inability to settle on a particular sound, for example. But, on A Minute of Another Day, it’s perhaps one of the album’s greatest strengths. Of course, it helps when you’ve got a band that can slip between genres, styles and moods with ease and style. Whilst, this might be the band’s debut, they’re a well traveled bunch, and with some of these songs several years in the making, they know how to deliver.

As debut album’s go A Minute of Another Day is a triumph. At times raucous, often thought-provoking and with some impeccable songwriting on show, it’s a strong contender for my album of the year. But don’t take my word for it, give it a spin now.

The Little Lord Street Band’s debut album A Minute of Another Day releases Friday September 11th. Pre-order the album HERE.

With the band’s “Fighting for Air” national tour shelved due to COVID-19 restrictions, the band are heading out on an album tour around WA (Dates below). It all kicks off tomorrow night in Dongara.
