Fur Coat and the Peace Boat is the newly released EP from Sydney five piece Burn Antares. The rockers have been schooled on the blues rock of The Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane, to the soul and funk of Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, while the album was produced by Tony Buchen (The Preatures, Andy Bull, Tim Finn), and distributed through MGM. CRYSTAL LOVE
This little number is a rollicking good-viber. We’re of the firm belief that there definitely is not enough ‘ooh’s and ‘ahh’s in rock and roll backing vocals, so we made sure that this song rectified that.
It may or may not extol the mystical pseudo-scientific properties of crystals. Originally written as an attempt to secure a placement in an advertisement for New Age Healing Co., it was unfortunately denied due to the lack of pan flutes. Give it a listen; align your chakras.
RICH MAN
A valuable ode to Love overriding Materialism, which is always healthy to keep in mind during these days of heady indulgence. Fittingly, the second half of the song sees us indulge in something equally intoxicating. Put on some headphones, close your eyes and float downstream.
KNIGHT IN SHINING
This is one for all those analogicians out there; real Mellotron, real Leslie guitar. Curiously, this song was delivered to us in an anonymous paper bag. Inside was a note explaining that it was the best song that 1967 did not write. I guess it came as no surprise to us when we realised that the song, played backwards, revealed the truth regarding the coverup of Paul McCartney’s death.
DISCORD AND THE AMITY
A serenely troubling slow burn track, which tends to gravitate towards the chaotic as opposed to the harmonious. This is a fusion of all that is necessary in life; heartache, insanity, and an eventual maelstrom of freaky instrumentation.
VANGABLONDE
Our producer Tony Buchen was fortunately deep in the throes of a Lee Hazlewood obsession during our time in the studio, which was a big influence for how this track turned out. Add in a superheroine, a string quartet, and a dose of high drama out West; now things are really cooking.
