Jack Grace is a name you may have been hearing a little more of as 2016 wound into its second half but it’s about time this musician’s profile kicked into high gear and more people become clued up to this wonderful talent.
After touring with the likes of NGAIIRE and releasing his River EP in late 2016, Grace is looking to a fruitful year of shows already in 2017 – recently announced to play Groovin The Moo and to support Airling this May and June, expect to see more of Grace in coming months.
Today though, we premiere the new live video for EP single “Stop Your Asking”. Musically haunting, the song definitely works its way into your head. Documented in black and white, the clip offers an intimate vibe. As Grace explains,
“I wanted to document playing these songs off the EP live as a way to give a little more context for what we had been doing live over the past couple of months and grab a snapshot of something before we inevitable switch it up and change it again. Chris (Christopher Port) my touring buddy/collaborator/best mate was going to be up for a week so we put a day a side to drive a couple of hours north west of Sydney to where I grew up. The old church that I choose to record in sits just down the road from my parents’ house.”
“It was built before the turn of the last century for all the forestry workers working in the mountains nearby. It’s meant to be maintained by the community as being a Union Church, [so] it’s not connected to a particular institution. It’s currently in a bad state and nobody has any plans to restore or donate money to fix it so in some ways this is a little send off for it. Apart from it being a part of history, I’m not as deeply upset about losing it as I would expect as I often get quite attached to things from my childhood. At first it surprised me that nobody from the valley seemed to care about it anymore but then again there’s rock paintings in the mountains above that god knows how old they which have had far worse treatment. We are a fairly apathetic bunch.”
