Exclusive Music Video Premiere: Transvaal Diamond Syndicate speak out on violence against women in "The River" (2015)

Australian Blues Rock band Transvaal Diamond Syndicate have released a video for their latest single “The River” – for which they head out on tour today – sure to cause controversy and engineered to precede important discussion. The confronting 6 minute, black and white filmclip speaks out on violence against women, coming complete with a justified trigger warning to deliver a strong, artistic piece aimed at raising awareness and funds for an issue that impacts many.

“We are all sons, brothers and boyfriends,” said lead singer and songwriter, Christian Tryhorn. “We started out wanting to do a straight Deliverance’ style filmclip but in light of the crazy shit happening to women over the country in recent weeks, we knew this was an opportunity to stand up and speak out.”

“This song and video may be confronting for some,” he said. “But I reckon it’s part of a necessary push to make people stop, think and act for themselves and those that can’t.” Furthermore, the band are donating half of sales proceeds to a women’s shelter in Brisbane, putting “our money where our mouth is in this stand on violence against women.”

At its heart though is a fantastic, 70’s psychrock track, which features Lachy Doley on keys, Zed Charles (The Royal Artillery) on lead guitar and Alice Schulte (Frank Sultana and The Sinister Kids) on backing vox.

Punters are encouraged to act now on violence against women. Watch and share the video, which enjoys its exclusive premiere on the AU review today, buy the song (50% of song sales will be donated to the local women’s shelter) and most importantly… Stand up. Speak out.
