Currently touring Australia with the Foo Fighters and Rise Against, Sydney’s The Delta Riggs are doing big things for Australian rock n roll. So, when they’re getting ready to hit up these massive stadium stages, what gets them in the mood? Here now is an exclusive playlist – courtesy of the band and Rdio – that they’ve dubbed the “Stadium Rock Warm Up Playlist”. Here we go…
Monte
War On Drugs – Red Eyes
“I’ve listened to this song at least 200 times and I still love it like it was fresh. Incredible parts and mood to the whole track.”
Bobby Womack – Stupid ( With interlude)
“Damon Alban produced this record and it’s simply stunning. The production alone is fantastic but that voice. Wow. This song in particular is my favourite and the introlude with spoken word from Gil Scott-Heron is he perfect accompaniment.”
The Strokes – Reptilia
“It’s always hard to pick just one Strokes song. I was watching them live at Reading the other day and have just picked this one. One of the most all class bands of our generation easily.”
13th Floor Elevators – You’re Gonna Miss Me
“I just recently was reminded of this song. They are heralded for inventing Psych music but Regardless of the facts, that growl of Roky Erickson’s gives me chills every time. Fantastic song and it’s a shame how it all spiralled down from too many drugs.”
The Twang – Drinking In L.A
“This is classic Brit Pop for me. It just has all the elements and although it’s not the most amazing song in the world, evokes a feeling of Summer and good times.”
Elliott
Lord Newborn And The Magic Skulls – Dime Bag Conspiracy
“A friend of mine was cutting my hair in his lounge room and put on this vinyl. I love what these guys are doing with soundscapes and experimenting with an instrumental focus. Sonically they’re super trippy.”
The Bots – Blinded
“Awesome production and drum sound. This track for me has a punk energy even with a halftime feel. What will they think of next.”
The Frowning Clouds – Leopard Print Tint
“Bunch of guys with mod haircuts we used to play with. Haven’t run into these guys in a while but have been enjoying their new record. I thinks someone’s playing drums on a seat or table top in this song. #art”
Action Bronson – Actin Crazy
“Think the subject matter is spot on in this track and also think the production from 40 & Omen is super fresh. I love hearing super young dudes all over the production on this kind of stuff.”
Hiatus Kaiyote – The World It Softly Lulls
“I’d heard a lot about these guys. On NYE we played a festival with them called Lost Paradise and the drummer blew my mind. I had to go rethink a few things after watching these guys execute this stuff perfectly live.”
Simmo
Big Boi – Shutterbugg
“Signature Big-Boi future hip-hop production on this track and a solid amount of attitude as he spits out the verses.”
Kasabian – Eez-Eh
“Kasabian have the ability to combine rock n roll with dance & electronic elements effortlessly. This one is a highway driving favourite.”
Jay-Z – Izzo (H.O.V.A.)
“Whenever this song comes on no matter what the situation i start smiling. The whole this is classic Jay-Z.”
The Dandy Warhols – Bohemian Like You
“Nostalgia’s at an all-time high when listening to this Dandy’s hit. A karaoke favourite of mine.”
N.E.R.D – Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing In The Line For The Bathroom)
“Love the Drum Sound and production on this high energy N.E.R.D track. Another good one to spazz out to on the dance floor.”
Rudy
The Budos Band – Rite Of The Ancients
“Just picked this up on vinyl the other day, really good instrumental jams. Has a slightly dark element to it and the band is ripping.”
Erykah Badu – The Healer
“I really like the minimalism of this track and the vocals are awesome. The timing of them really makes the track flow, you discover a whole load of sounds when you listen to it in headphones.”
Pond – Man It Feels Like Space Again
“Only just heard this a few weeks back on a local Melbourne station. Solid tune, goes for 8 or so minutes but doesn’t get boring. A vacation in the sub stratosphere. The vessel of choice is a mechanical rainbow powered by a black hole.”
Connan Mockasin – I’m The Man, That Will Find You
“I really (mostly) like the way New Zealanders make music, there is still a slightly funk element, but it’s done tastefully. The vocals are a bit left of centre, but sound combine to create a lush dreamy vibe.”
Miles Kane – Come Closer
“I’m a sucker for a shuffle.”
