Sydney-based singer/songwriter Abbey Lane has fused electro/pop with indie rock in “Ghost”, her latest single about to hit the airwaves. If you have ever been ghosted by someone, which I suspect is most of us, then this is the tune for you. We’re excited to have the first listen ahead of its release tomorrow.
“Ghost” is packed with emotion as Abbey portrays the sadness at losing a friend who has seemingly disappeared, without explanation. You are effortlessly swept along by the story, as it builds and is then pulled back, to allow the sweet vocals to take centre stage. Abbey writes: “The song itself is written about losing friendships and the heartache that comes along with being ‘ghosted’ by someone you considered as close as family.” Abbey Lane is a gifted storyteller and vocalist.
The track has been in the works for some time, having first taken shape during Lockdown in 2021, as Abbey explains: “I worked on this song for a long time trying to fuse my influences together, and found that when I played it live with my band it took on a whole new energy which I loved. Dave was really able to capture the vision I had for the song and helped me find a middle ground between my electronic aspects and indie rock influences.”
“Ghost” was produced by ARIA-award winner Dave Petrovic (Tonight Alive, Northlane).
Abbey has a tour kicking off this Sunday night in Wollongong, then hitting Newcastle, Albury, Wagga Wagga, Katoomba and finishing up in Sydney on the 18th of August. Full details are below.
