Central Coast alt-rock outfit Bad Witch are relatively fresh on the scene, and have been getting some keen attention for their enticing blend of punk, rock and blues. They dropped their debut release, “Uptight” in 2022, and have released a handful of exquisite singles since, most recently the crunchy “739”. We are thrilled to be premiering “Taste” a song inspired by some classic alt-rock legends. As an added bonus, we’ve also got the first look at the video for this tasty new number.
Sometimes it takes courage and a massive effort just to do the basic things: “Stand up, sitting down, I don’t know which I need to rehearse”. Anyone who has been in a rut will be able to associate with the lyics on this track.
About “Taste”, the band writes: “Inspired by my love of The Pixies, Weezer and 60s doo-wop, Taste is about losing that lust for life. I wrote it during a time when I was practically bed-ridden with demotivation, when life wasn’t giving me the same satisfaction it used to when I was younger and hungrier. The motif “I’ve forgotten how to taste” was a realisation for me that I’ve forgotten how to embrace and enjoy those little things that once made me feel so fulfilled. The happy-sad soundscape of the song lends itself really well to those feelings – it’s got a laid-back, swaying, almost apathetic feel that captures the experience of getting up, going about your routine and coming home deflated, all the while longing for change.”
“Taste” is packed with nostalgic indie guitar vibes and bittersweet confessional musings. A riot of guitars, a blues-inspired solo mid-stream and a see-saw of emotions makes this one a captivating listen. You can definitely feel the inspiration on this one, particularly Weezer.
