Exclusive Single Premiere: Ghyti "Give Us Your Money" (2015)

It has been a big year for Adelaide’s Ghyti as they’ve promoted their 2014 release Fluorescent Lights, taking it as far as Toronto for the Canadian Music Week festival in May 2015. Since then, they’ve returned home to work on new tracks, out of which a brilliant new single has emerged, “Give Us Your Money”, which we’re excited to premiere on the AU today ahead of its launch celebration at the Metro Hotel in Adelaide tonight.

The band’s characteristic lyrical cynicism is again on display, with the songs making wry comment on the nature of politics and the recent concerns of our leaders – which of course have been taking centre stage this past week. Ghyti have captured a tougher edge to the music this time, with the tone of the lead single aided by a wall of angular guitars and the production of Luke Eygenraam (ex-Central Deli Band, and the recent stand-in guitarist for Ghyti in Canada).

Lead singer Matthew Hill explains a bit more about the track, “The last EP was recorded over a long period of time with the band in flux, and it had an artificial, glitchy sound. The new single is the first track made with a solid lineup again, so we wanted to capture more of the live attitude to reflect that. A lot of the rhetoric we’ve been getting from Abbott about keeping the country safe, and everyone chipping for the greater good, is attempting to disguise the fairly basic concept of maintaining the status quo. It is happening in Canada and the UK too, and it is transparent. I think people like to see it called for what it is.”
