Sydney five-piece Goons continue to drop tunes that are joyously infectious. Following on from “Bella” which we premiered last September, the boys have again delivered a big song with a positive message. “Summer Lover” oozes good times and happy days. We are thrilled to have the first listen today, ahead of the release on Friday.
The band describes describe “Summer Lover”: “Summer Lover is a person, a place, a time. The person you wish you never met, but the one you can never forget. The place where the world fell away, in the time you can never have back. The perfect fling you wish hadn’t happened. If Dua Lipa sampled a Rolling Stones rhythm guitar track to create a dance-rock anthem with a Tame Impala bass line – hold the reverb – you have… Summer Lover.”
There is certainly a hint of the great Rolling Stones in the guitars on this track. The soaring vocals of The Great Lummox give it that anthemic edge and with many crescendos, it’s bound to be a staple of their live act. The boys have been gigging hard in and around Sydney the past few months, working around the odd lockdown. Keep an eye out on their Facebook page (link below) for details of upcoming gigs.
The video was written and directed by Michaela Le. The director of photography was Roger Stonehouse. Starring Beggar, it looks like they had a fun day out filming this one.
