Exclusive Single Premiere: Green Mohair Suits “Hell Or High Water” (2024)

Sydney’s four-piece, Green Mohair Suits create exquisite folk/country/bluegrass music, and is back today with a new track, “Hell Or High Water.  The track is the first single to be released from their upcoming fifth album, Stan Wella, due to be released in late September.  We are thrilled to be premiering it ahead of its release on Wednesday.

“Hell Or High Water” is a slow-burning tale of heartbreak and struggles. The gorgeous harmonies that the Green Mohair Suits are known for are present here, as is their meticulous musicianship. It has a Springsteen-esque vibe to it, with a vivid and desolate tale of despair and struggle slowly unfolding.

Ben Romalis of GMS gives us some background into the song:  This song is the story of two young lovers struggling to make ends meet in a time reminiscent of the great depression. They get married, he takes a job working for the mafia, then one simple mistake leads to the terrifying scenario of the two newlyweds running for their life. But the twist in this tale comes when the woman reveals herself to be as dangerous as any crime boss – a natural-born killer who will do whatever it takes to survive and protect the ones she loves.”

The four constituent songwriters of GSM (Brian CampeauRichard CuthbertJason Mannell, and Ben Romalis), are all accomplished musicians in their own right. Their music straddles genres such as bluegrass, indie folk and country, and they aren’t afraid to lean into 60s pop and reggae for good measure. The constant across the quartet is their stellar harmonies and superb musicianship. And if you can catch them live, then don’t miss the opportunity, as there is plenty of humour and candour thrown into the mix as well.
