New South Wales-born, now Canberra-based indie-roots singer/songwriter Jack Biilmann is just about to release the first track, “Legacy”, from this forthcoming album Full Circle. We are delighted to be premiering this tune ahead of its release on Friday.
“Legacy” features some beautiful crisp guitars fitting the soaring vocals like a glove. Fans of John Butler and Ash Grunwald should find plenty to love here. It also reminds me of the great Steve Earle. This is a song screaming out to be played live.
The track has a rocking edgy feel to it. The sentiments are a little dark, but a big chorus and sweet guitars give it lightness and joy. This is a deft and clever mix up.
“Legacy” takes a deep look inwards, reflecting on our own life, and what sort of legacy we are leaving. Biilmann explains: “As I have grown up and thought about life it’s natural to either look forward to the future or back to the past. I hit a point where I started to think beyond that and asked myself questions like how would you like to be remembered? What did you contribute? What mark are you making for yourself and the people you care about? That subject and those questions run very deep. Sing the hook and think about what that means to you.”
The track was co-produced with his long time collaborator, Matt Barnes. Michael Barker, a former member of John Butler Trio, assisted on drums.
Billmann made his public musical debut in 2016. He has been steadily building his profile since. Billmann has shared the stage with the likes of John Farnham, The Cat Empire, Tash Sultana, Ian Moss and many more legends of the Australian music scene.
