Perth outfit, Joan & The Giants, have a knack for writing songs that pull at the heartstrings. Following on from last year’s poignant single “Just For You”, the quartet is back with the achingly beautiful “Slow Motion”. It draws a vivid picture of that moment when the first flicker of love takes hold. We are thrilled to be premiering it ahead of its official release on Friday, the 13th of May.
The band kicked off in 2019 with partners Grace Newton-Wordsworth and Aaron Birch. Riley Sutton and Liam Olsen were added to the mix, to create emotive and captivating music which has resonated so well with their audience.
About the song, Grace writes. “‘Slow Motion’ was written about falling in love when you least expect it. The intoxicating feeling of a smokey, dim-lit room moving in Slow Motion. Time starts to fall away and your whole body is focused on breathing someone in and embracing a new part of yourself.”
The vocals are intoxicating. It feels like you are in a cathedral, vocals resonating and shimmering, accompanied by the acoustic guitar that caresses and serenades. Joan & The Giants draw the listener in tightly to their beautifully assembled picture of falling in love. Get them on your playlists now.
The band have had some stellar festival slots in recent years. Amongst their achievements is headlining the Shinju Matsuri Festival in Broome, as well as appearances at Nannup, Fairbridge and Perth Festivals.
