Earlier this year, Sydney punk-rocker Jovi Skyler released his debut album, Nothing To Do. One of the tracks from the album, “Nervosa” is being released a single, with an accompanying video, and we are thrilled to be premiering it ahead of its release on Friday.
The track is imbued with grunge and hazy vocals. The guitar lines flowing through the track have a nostalgic 90’s feel to them, and its a brazened angsty slice of psych rock meshed with melodic beauty. It might remind you of some classic 90’s bands, who drew inspiration from the likes of the great Lou Reed, and it has all these feels and then some. Nirvana is of course another strong parallel.
Jovi studied at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, before dropping out to forge his own path within the world of music. Since then, he has grafted and crafted his take on society and the nuances of human behaviour. There’s a groove and swagger that accompanies his enlightened view on the world about him.
Yes, Jovi Skyler is an accomplished singer/songwriter, but his skills go beyond this. In a time where DIY is a must, Jovi is ahead of the curve. As well as writing, singing and producing the track he has also created the video, which is as just as creative. It’s a total gas, captivating and energetic.
Jovi Skyler is one of those artists that has flown under the radar for too long. Enjoy our first viewing of the video for “Nervosa” from an artist that draws you in with his soulful explorations of what matters.
