We are always excited to premiere a band’s debut release, and we have that privilege today with Meanjin/Brisbane-based indie-rock band Left Cassette and their first single to hit the airwaves, “Two Left Shoes”. It’s a banger!
If you love guitar music, then this is going to be your jam. It opens brilliantly, with guitars to the max before kicking into a driving melody, passionate vocals from lead singer, former Liverpudlian Josh Aldred, and driving percussion. There’s an upbeat urgency to “Two Left Shoes” that has us totally hooked. It’s anthemic and captivating – in an era where it may seem that guitar-led bands are on the wane, these guys are fighting to bring them to the fore. I can’t wait to see them live.
About the track, the band writes: “‘Two Left Shoes’ is a song written by our lead singer Josh Aldred. The track came together after many years of trial and error. Having had the track written in late 2021, Josh workshopped the song to his then punk rock band. When Left Cassette was formed in early 2024, the song was re-workshopped and we put our own spin on it. The song was originally written about being in a relationship that was always having its ups and downs. Not knowing whether you were in it for the long haul, or on your way out the door. The relationship got to a point where neither party knew who was at fault anymore. Both just entertaining the idea that things may not be perfect, but you’re too hung up on the other person to do anything about it. Just desperately holding on for the ride.”
Left Cassette only formed early this year and has cited as being inspired by bands such as Catfish & The Bottleman, The Wombats, and Two Door Cinema Club. In their short time together, they have already managed to sell out their own headline show at Tomcat in Brisbane earlier this year. They are heading back to Tomcat on the 20th of July to support Satin Cali. They will also have their own headline show at Tomcat on the 24th of August. Ticket details are below.
“Two Left Shoes” was produced and mixed by Jono Fraud (Surf Trash, The Baby Breaks). You can pre-save the track HERE ahead of its release on Friday. In the meantime, enjoy our exclusive premiere.
