Exclusive Single Premiere: Localles “Wishing Well” (2017)

Boasting well crafted pop riffs and driving guitars, Melbourne’s Localles exhibit more of that potential that has been generating serious buzz on the live front of late. Led by Ted O’Neil, the band’s music funnels frustrations and a great sense of self-awareness into almost two and a half minutes of easily digested indie pop-rock – a talent one might think is easy to lock down within the genre but when executed poorly, can fall quite flat.

O’Neil wrote the song following his hospitalisation for a severe concussion that caused him to be out of action – what was thought to be a smaller sports-related injury led to the discovery of a more pressing injury; swelling on the brain. During his recovery, O’Neil recuperated on the Victorian Surf Coast and wrote “Wishing Well” as well as what would become the band’s EP.

The single itself exudes positivity within its music and thinking about what O’Neil has gone through to get to this point, there’s an added level of lightness to “Wishing Well” that can’t be ignored.

“”Wishing Well” is about always wanting what you don’t have,” he has said. “A ‘grass is greener’ type thing. But it is also a statement about positivity, about how things can get better if people work together.”
