If you’ve ever struggled to move on from a relationship that didn’t work out, then “Strong” from Paige Barnard is sure to resonate with you. The Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter has a talent for capturing what truly matters, and we are excited to premiere the track, and video, ahead of its official release on Wednesday.
Paige possesses powerful, rich vocals that take center stage in this heartfelt song. When paired with the piano, she leads us on an emotional journey that explores the challenges of the end of a relationship and the need for resilience. She sings “I’ll pick the pieces up, I’ll be strong”. We all need this strength as we disect what went wrong. The strength of her delivery resonates deeply with the journey she faced.
Paige gives this insight into “Strong” – “I was really struggling to heal and move on from this relationship because nothing really went wrong, it was more the long distance that we couldn’t manage and commit to and so I felt quite rejected at the same time. So this song was really cathartic for me to write and it ended up being the last song I actually wrote about this breakup, and there was a lot!”
The clip was filmed by Josie Wappet and edited by Eimhin Healy. It was shot on film, and has a hazy and nostalgic feeling to it. Set on the seaside, as the sun is going down, it has an introspective feel to it, with the strength of the protagonist shining brightly through the layered imagery. It’s a beautiful accompaniment to the track.
These are the first releases from Paige since 2023’s “Deserve More” and “Forget You”. Here’s hoping that there will be more to follow in 2025. “Strong” will be released this Wednesday – be sure to pre-save it HERE.
