Last month, BELLA DEER, the Wadawurrung-based (Geelong) singer/songwriter, released her formidable debut EP, Age of Alchemy. It’s a beautiful record, showcasing an artist with talent that belies her years. One of the standout tracks on the album is “In The Nebula”, and today we have the pleasure of premiering the video.
We were crushing on Bella’s debut video for her debut track, “Bloom“, back in 2022, and Bella has taken further leaps forward in her songwriting. “In The Nebula” is an evocative song, inviting the listener to explore their own feelings, their fears and insecurities. It’s a song that was written from the heart, as Bella explains: “In The Nebula was one of those songs that simply flowed out of me. It is deeply personal. I think that by sharing something uncomfortable through your art, you can connect with audiences, simply by its authenticity. This is what I appreciate about other artists and the ones that resonate the most.”
“In The Nebula” is lush and layered. The vocals of Bella might remind you of Florence Welch. With some moody piano, you can’t help but to be swept along on this intense emotional journey.
The video for “In The Nebula” is thought-provoking and dramatic. It beautifully captures what it can feel to be on the outside looking in, struggling to work out which direction to turn. David Fromholtz was the DOP, who shared the direction/production duties with Craig Reasons and Isabella Losi (Bella Deer). The video features Geelong actor Libby Brockman.
Bella has some gigs coming up shortly. You can catch her on the 8th of December at Barwon Heads Arts & Community Hub, 14th of December at Bendigo Records, and on the 26th of January at Barrels Bar in Port Campbell. All the details are below.
