Colin Lillie hasn’t taken the conventional path, but he has certainly taken an interesting one. The Northern Territory-based Scotsman has lived a torrid life well. It wasn’t until he reached his mid-thirties that he started to share his songs with the world, and his award winning album Glass Homes was released in 2016. 2018 proved to be a busy year for Colin. There were auditions with ‘The Voice’, then tours with rock’n’roll hall-of-famers The Animals as well as Diesel.
The first single from his forthcoming album is “Human Kind of Life”, a song that came as a collaboration between Colin and Rohin Jones from “The Middle East”. According to Lillie, “This song is me saying goodbye to the past, thank you to the present and an optimistic hello to the future.”
The single is produced by acclaimed producer Jamie Trevaskis (Robert Forster/The Gin Club) at his Wild Mountain Studios. The clip was filmed by Red Hot Films Brisbane on location in Brisbane and edited by Eden Mulholland (Faux Italic). Trevaskis explains about the recording of this song:
“A Human Kind Of Life was the type of song that needed to be approached with serious intent. With a firm idea of where the band was to show restraint and then where they were to come on like a rollicking freight train. The plan was simple – get familiar with the arrangement within a few takes. Colin, hunched over a microphone, pouring the songs true nature out with an emotive vocal styling that has experienced almost everything that is a human kind of life. It was simple, it was like the calm after a storm. The tape machine rolled for 20 seconds after the close of the song in silence, with no one wanting to breathe again.”
2019 will be another busy year for Colin, with the release of his next album, and a national tour supporting Busby Marou. Following the release of the album, a national tour awaits, followed up with tours of Canada and the UK.
