Exclusive Video Premiere: Debbies “meaning of love” (2022)

Debbies

Debbies are a two-piece band hailing from Jervis Bay, south of Sydney. They’ve been cranking out anthemic pop-punk since emerging as finalists in 2019’s triple j Unearthed High. Their pop-punk sound is fresh yet familiar. This is a band in a hurry, with shredding guitars, driving beats, and stories that resonate, they are an excitement machine.

Their latest single “meaning of love” is a gloriously full-blown heart-on-your-sleeve examination of what it is to be in love. We are beyond excited to premiere the video for the track. As you would expect, it’s high-octane.

The band talk about the song, and what initiated it: “‘meaning of love’ is about the meaning of love from our perspective, on a close mates recent dabble with love. From the outside looking in, it looked as if he wasn’t really in love in the relationship he was in. I think we landed on a sweet spot with the chorus that encapsulates the confusion some of us go through, when we get caught up in what love actually means and how it feels when we try to constantly provide the advertised love we all see in movies, but it doesn’t go the way as planned. The inability I had to help my mate and trying to capture what he was feeling is what created the chorus of MOL and what instantly created an anthem that hit hard, feeling angsty and relatable for us to sing.”

They’ve had over 1 million streams, and it’s not hard to see why. The duo are high-achievers at the age of twenty-one. I dread to think back to what I was up to at that age. Certainly not being this creative. This is a band you want to see ripping up the main stage at a festival.

About the video, the band says:  “For the music video we really wanted to capture the energy of the song visually and tie in the themes of the single artwork with the queen hearts so we decided to go with a hell 90’s vibe clip. We wanted to give the clip a bit of a spooky aura to it as well so we did some scenes black and white at a local graveyard to string in some narrative for the clip and make something we were really stoked with.”

If you are in Queensland, you can catch the boys in Brisbane and Broadbeach in late August. They will also be playing in Thirroul and Bondi. Details are below.

The clip was created with Teel Studios in Wollongong. Enjoy.
