Exclusive Video Premiere: Jack Biilmann & The Black Tide “Hot Blood” (2024)

Jack Biilmann

Last year we were lucky enough to premiere Divided Mind, the latest LP from Canberra-based singer/songwriter Jack Biilmann. We are stoked today to be premiering  the video for a track from the album, “Hot Blood”, which has been re-recorded as a high-energy electric blues/rock jam.

It was little surprise to us that the album has been so well received. It’s been streamed over 1 million times, and since it’s release Jack has been invited to tour with Dan Sultan, signed a publishing deal with Cooking Vinyl and scored endorsement deals with Fender GuitarsDR Strings & Badcat Amplifiers

“Hot Blood” was one of the tracks that we took a shine to at the time, so it’s exciting to hear the reprised version. On the album, it was recorded with acoustic guitars. On the re-recorded version, with his band, The Black Tide, Jack has gone fully electric. For a man with serious guitar skills, they are shown off here in spades. The band is super tight, the vocals are gritty and it’s got a captivating groove. It’s an absolute corker.

About the video, his team gave us the low-down:  “The ‘Hot Blood’ video was designed and produced to showcase the energy and stage presence of Jack Biilmann & The Black Tide. The clip was shot at The Custard Lounge, Biilmann’s home studio where the band writes and rehearses. ‘Hot Blood’ is a reprise of the first single off the 2023 album Divided Mind which was a live and solo cut of the track in the beautiful surrounds of The Round Plain Church. The new video showcases the song in band mode with all chemistry, musicianship and stank on show to prepare the viewer for the highly commended live show. Directed, shot and edited by Nic Vevers.”

As well as Jack on slide guitar and vocals, The Black Tide is comprised of Pat Quinn Quirke on guitar, Jono Warren on drums and Joel Cabban on bass.
