Jordan Merrick brings his bush-ballad groove, with a touch of Americana and Blues to this lovely track about desire and the reluctance to act upon it. We are fortunate to have the Exclusive first look at “Low Country”.
Jordan hails from Brisbane, and prior to releasing his solo material, has released albums with his band Fugitive & The Vagabond. His debut single “Untitled #1” was released in 2017 and has had 750k+ plays on spotify. You might have seen him supporting Mia Dyson and Alex the Astronaut on their East-coast tour that year.
This is the first track off his debut album which will be released later this year. It was produced and engineered by Steven Schram who has worked with Paul Kelly, Bob Evans and the Cat Empire.
It’s a fun video, a 50’s pastiche of well-thumbed novels, old-style vestements and red-roses. It borrows from the silent-movie genre, has some sweet pastels fused with a healthy dose of melodrama. The video morphs into desire and unrequited love, a love and desire which wins out over the novel (War and Peace, no less) and the humdrum of sitting around and not acting upon one’s passions.
The video was filmed and edited by David Fulham and Marigold Pazar (Wouldyoupassmetheocean).
It’s great fun – do give it a watch and listen.
Jordan is playing a show tomorrow night (5th July) – at the Gasoline Pony in Sydney
