Australian singer/songwriter Melody Pool possesses a voice that is truly unique, capable of halting you in your tracks. She is currently gearing up to release her third studio album and is about to drop her latest single, ‘Will Not Let You Down”. We’re excited to be premiering the stunning video for the track, ahead of its official release later in the week.
“Will Not Let You Down” is a beautiful mix of late 60’s folk, rock and psych-folk, with the magical infusion of Pool’s gorgeous vocals. The song takes you on an emotional journey, opening with delicate folk musings, building with swirling drums, strings, and lush backing vocals. She’s not afraid to mix up the tempo and intensity. The extended outro is sublime. If you are a fan of Sandy Denny with Fairport Convention and Joni Mitchell, then this is going to hit all of your buttons.
About the inspiration for the song, Melody writes: “Dreams are a huge source of inspiration for me. I let this song just take me there, and I really wanted it to reflect that otherworldly state sonically, by sounding beautiful and ethereal but a little off its hinges at the same time. When the chorus kicks in, it’s supposed to feel overwhelming, like an intrusive thought that won’t let up.”
The clip was filmed at Melody’s home in Wollombi by filmmaker Brayden Porter. It’s exquisitely paired to the tone of “Will Not Let You Down” with the dreamy imagery. Melody appears alongside her coven, and it’s lush, sensual and nurturing. There’s a magical and timeless feeling running through the video.
Melody has roped in some stellar musicians to help out on the track. Tate Sheridan is on keys, the fabulous CJ Stranger on guitars, Brendan Clark on bass and Miles Thomas on drums. Hayley-Jane Ayres and Madeleine Becker are on the strings, and Kate Lucas on backing vocals.
“Will Not Let You Down” will be on Melody’s upcoming third album, due to be released later in the year. It has been recorded live on 2-inch, 24-track tape at Marrickville’s Golden Retriever Studios and produced by Christopher Dale. This is the third single to be released, following on from “Fantasy Girl” and “Changing”.
