Sydney’s SLIM JIMZ have been winning hearts and minds in their hometown and beyond through their infectious and heartfelt indie rock. A track that deftly captures their ability to resonate is “25”, released a week ago. We’re thrilled today to have the video premiere for the track ahead of its release on Friday.
The track was written during lockdown, and vividly captures the frustration, and also the exasperation that can follow from the feeling of isolation and falling behind, when others are taking leaps forward.
Ben Roach from SLIM JIMZ explains: “The lyrics for 25 were written after we finally came out of lockdown. At the time I felt disconnected – two years of my life had passed without any real experiences or connections to show for it. Everyone around me was getting married, having kids and buying houses which made me feel very different to everyone else. This song is about my desire to take back what I had lost and find someone that is worth waiting for.”
The track was recorded at the beautiful The Grove Studios (Violent Soho, DMA’s, Skeggs) with Jack Nigro (The Terry’s, Pacific Avenue, DICE).
The video has a lovely vintage feel to it. They wanted a nostalgic vibe, and they’ve absolutely nailed it. As they explain: “Most of the footage used for the music video was taken in Brisbane and Byron Bay on our recent Aussie Tour with South Summit. While there is no particular narrative to the video, we wanted to portray a sense of freedom and liberation that comes with touring as a band. We wanted to give it a kind of nostalgic feel to it, so we decided to throw a Super 8 filter over the top to give it that old school vibe”

To celebrate the release of “25”, the band are embarking on a NSW tour starting this Saturday at The Vanguard in Newtown. Full details are below.
