TOBiAS is the moniker for Sunshine Coast-based singer/songwriter T
“Howling at the Moon” was written from the perspective of the initial attraction, during that irresistible pull that governs the beginning of a relationship. Or as TOBiAS explains, “The song attempts to encapsulate the feeling of sexual attraction and being on the precipice of falling in to a relationship. ‘Howling’ meaning taken by a biological instinct and drive out of our comfort zone, “its too late I’m stuck on you” like a confessional of a hopeless romantic, “strap me in I’m going on another adventure.”
The song has a strong narrative with a warm melody running through it, allowing the lyrics to shine through. Each phrase lingers, punctuated by sweet guitars, accentuating the emotions.
With regards to the video for the song, TOBiAS told the AU: “The Howling At The Moon music video was shot in my hometown of Pomona in The Sunshine Coast hinterland. We wanted to keep it local because we love the town. The band scenes are all filmed in the Pomona Majestic Theatre, the bush scenes in the state forest and around the fire at The Pomona Distilling Co.
The aim of the clip was to create some mystery (which the song lends itself to) using dark cool tones and excellent locations. The couple in the clip follow a loose storyline of the man infatuated with a woman to eventually becoming intimate around a fire on their date. I hired a local couple to act in the clip because they are hotter than I am!
The clip went through many phases of ideas, including my original idea of men dressed as wolves dancing in the pub (Mighty Boosh style), but alas not as classy as our finished product and the end result was fantastic.”
TOBiAS has been on the indie/folk scene for two decades now. A songwriters’ songwriter, he has performed at festivals such as Woodford and played on stages with the likes of Missy Higgins, Jen Cloher, Archie Roach, Fanny Lumsden and Neko Case. If you dig quality songwriters such as Mick Thomas, then you will find plenty to love in this track.
The clip was shot and edited by the talented Cape Tiene and co-directed by Tania Meyer.
