Aussie rockers Faker have been added to Movie Extra Tropfest’s line-up of free entertainment, which also includes an afternoon performance by 2009 Tropscore winner Pluto Jonze, a giant bungee trampoline, photo booths, bucket loads of free things to take home, and of course world class short films on Sunday 19 February in Sydney’s Domain.
Bring your picnic blanket and settle in from around 3pm, with local DJs tearing up tracks for early arrivals and a live performance at 5pm by up and coming electro pop sensation, Pluto Jonze.
The Movie Extra Tent is the place for everything movies! Test your strength on the high striker, get free popcorn and lollies and have your photo taken in the free photo booth.
Official beer of Tropfest, Stella Artois, will be running a competition on the day to win a VIP trip for two to the Cannes Film Festival.
Newly refurbished entertainment Mecca, The Star will be holding a competition to win the ultimate weekend for two at The Star valued at $4,000. Film fans just need to pick up a free Star T-Shirt and text a photo of themselves wearing it to the number supplied on the shirts for their chance to win.
Nikon bring some bounce with a giant bungee trampoline. Nikon’s impressive range of cameras will capture all the action and daredevils will be able to download their photo after the festival.
MAX Music are once again hosting a silent disco in an inflatable tent.
Film and television fans can watch their favourite stars walk the Tropfest VIP Black Carpet from 6pm with exciting interviews and one-on-one-chats. And Tropfest hosts, Adam Spencer and Julia Zemiro, take to the stage at 7:30pm to kick off all the official show.
Finalist films begin screening from 8pm, with a 20-minute break before the second half which starts at 9:10pm. At 10pm a mystery panel of celebrity judges decides on the winners along with Festival Director & Founder John Polson, Australian of the Year Geoffrey Rush and last year’s winner, Damon Gameau.
At 10:15pm Australia finds out who the winners are before the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) is announced for the 2013 festival. Aussie band, Faker closes the show with some of their biggest hits as well as songs from their most recent album “Get Loved”.
Festival Director and Founder, John Polson, says “Over the past two decades, we’ve tried to improve on the Tropfest festival experience each and every year. With the addition of additional events, including a special screening of past Tropfest finalist films at Dendy Cinemas Friday night, our filmmaker symposium, Roughcut, at the Art Gallery of NSW on Saturday, and of course the main event itself, we’re excited about giving short film lovers a massively satisfying weekend.”
Movie Extra Tropfest is screened live to an anticipated audience of 150,000 at free outdoor public events across Australia and televised live on Subscription TV channel, Movie Extra, to hundreds of thousands more.
