Local five piece Fever Artiste are set to explode with the release of their debut EP Miami Girls. The selection of tracks featured on the record display a sense of fun and adventure that have all been neatly packaged into three minute pop ditties that are sure to get you up and grooving on the dance floor.
“Miami Girls” is an incredibly catchy tune with its sharp riffs and energetic melodies that simultaneously recall the work of indie heroes The Strokes and The Killers in the same breath. Joshua De Laurentiis’ vocals are neither awe inspiring or coma inducing, with the front man displaying a detached bemusement in his delivery which is suited to the music.
The happy, laid back vibe of “Getting Out” provides a stark contrast to the brooding tones of “It’s A Living”, a song that was made to be played loud in a live with it’s spiralling guitars and gigantic drum line that seems intent on leaving the listener in a sweaty, shaking heap on the floor.
Fever Artiste’s musicianship is tight and their songs are well crafted, the only thing lacking in this EP is a sense of who the band are, as they borrow a lot from their predecessors and it would be nice to see more of their own personality injected into their sound.
While the band may wear their influences firmly on their sleeves, the music made by Fever Artiste is easy to enjoy as it encapsulates the spirit of youthful naivety and living life with a reckless abandon.
Review Score: 7/10
