It’s Friday. We’re ready for the long weekend. At the end of each week we’re going to be bringing you a short, but sweet round up of some of the tunes we’ve been bumping by artists you may already know, some you may be coming to for the first time. Whatever your vibe is, hopefully we can link you up with your favourite new tune or artist who, you never know, could be rolling out their music on a stage near you soon!
Find out some more about this first batch below…
DREAM RIMMY (Fremantle, WA)
With their new single “Landslide”, the west coast shoegaze group have continued to make impact – an extra tick on a list of achievements that have seen the Freo group tour emerge as a dynamic live band to watch. Their debut self-titled EP dropped last year and since then, Dream Rimmy have been sharing the stages with the likes of Ash, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as well as landing a spot at WA’s State of the Art Festival. “Landslide” itself is a wave of dreamy vocals and fuzzed out arrangement; hypnotic and inescapably catchy. As one of RTR-FM’s most played artists last year, it’s no wonder when we hear songs like this – looking forward to seeing more of Dream Rimmy elsewhere around the country next year.

The band plays Mojo’s in Fremantle on October 15th to launch “Landslide”, supported by Foam, The Spunloves, Moistoyster, The Body Boys, Oosterbanger and Lana. They’ll also be supporting Holy Holy on the WA leg of their November ‘Darwinism’ tour:
November 4th | The Prince of Wales, BUNBURY
November 5th | Amplifier, PERTH
November 6th | Mojo’s, FREMANTLE
HANNAHBAND (Sydney, NSW)
Nathan Martin and Marnie Vaughn get rather cathartic on their Quitting Will Improve Your Health album – delivering some emo/punk tunes that kick total ass. They’re energetic, totally earnest and have formed a collection of material that will have you screaming along in no time. Between these two musicians exists a dynamic that is thriving at the minute and you can hear how well Nathan and Marnie clash and bounce off each other with each track of Quitting Will Improve Your Health. “Burn It Down” is an excellent entry point for any newcomers to the group – get around the chaos.

October 20th | The Hamilton Station Hotel, NEWCASTLE
October 21st | The Foundry, BRISBANE
November 11th | The Factory Fuse Box, SYDNEY
ALEX THE KID (Geraldton, WA)
Since taking out the triple j Unearthed competition to play the 2016 One Night Stand in Geraldton, the five piece punk band has really gone from strength to strength. Keeping in mind that that competition was won back in March, in the last few months, Alex The Kid have been on the road both around the regional centres and nationally and have released their debut album Speak Up. The percussion is rapid and punishing, while the punk vocals scream and soar over the chaos of the guitars – we’re loving album track “Tenderloins” at the minute, though the full album is littered with some great moments of hectic fury.

Alex The Kid supports Columbus when they come through WA this October:
October 21st | Jack Rabbit Slims, PERTH | 18+
October 22nd | The Prince of Wales, BUNBURY | 18+
SWIM SEASON (Melbourne, VIC)
Swim Season have been working on new music to follow up from 2015’s well-received Cascades EP and the first taste we’re getting from the band is in “The Close”. While the single remains a catchy slice of indie pop, it marks a slight shift in direction for the band – this one’s slightly more mature than what we’ve heard from Swim Season in the past, a bit more refined. They’ve shown once again that they have a knack for penning an undeniably catchy chorus section, not to mention the hooks. Hook bloody central. It’ll be interesting to see what the band has up their sleeves for 2017.

INTERNATIONAL PICK
LIV DAWSON (London, UK)
This young singer songwriter has been making waves out in the UK for her captivating vocals and pop music that strikes a chord out above the rest being banged out on radio. Her latest single “Reflection” leans heavy on Dawson’s stunning voice and a simple piano-led arrangement; rich and heartfelt. She’s been working with a range of big-name producers (“Reflection” saw Dawson work with Levi Lennox and Jimmy Napes), but over the course of a few listens of this tune and some of her previous releases, it’s clear that Dawson is an artist beginning to carve out a spot on the British pop map on her own.
