Edition #10! To mark it (and the beginning of December), we’ve got some sounds from Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, the GC and all the way out from Birmingham, Alabama.
Bleeding Gums (Sydney)
Ben Nelson‘s DIY rock/garage project, Bleeding Gums, has seen this muso generate some heat locally – coming out of South Sydney, Nelson’s music has been likened to that of early Straight Arrows and The Pinheads. The guitars swirl, the melodies are dope; check out new single “Bleeding Gums TV” for a taste.

Cabin Cults (Adelaide)
Adelaide’s Cabin Cults have emerged from the studio with a punchier, darker sound than their 2015 EP, Riot is the Watchword, presented. Working with electronic soundscapes and energetic guitar work, the band has the catchy vibe to entice people out on to dance floor and keep them there.

City Over Sand (Gold Coast)
When indie pop group, City Over Sand, released a new album in Good Grief this year, we were introduced to an eclectic mix of musical influences representative of both shared experience and individual taste. From the Gold Coast, the trio have been solidly establishing an impressive reputation for themselves as a live unit as well as a talented band on record – 2017 is looking to be a positive one for these guys.
Take a listen to Good Grief album track, “Code Red”, below for a hit of the type of music City Over Sand are currently playing with.

Ziggy (Perth)
Another young member of the Australian hip hop scene has emerged with a strong message and an equally as strong voice to match. Perth MC Ziggy has made waves this year with his EP Black Thoughts, a candid and insightful look into race relations still under the microscope of public debate in modern Australia.
A bright star on a thriving hip hop circuit – can’t wait to see what comes from Ziggy next.

INTERNATIONAL PICK
Maria Taylor (Alabama, US)
American singer songwriter Maria Taylor recently dropped a new single in “Free Song” (via an international premiere on Clash) and we were hooked from then on. Taken from her forthcoming album, In The Next Life, Taylor’s displayed some excellent folk-pop tendencies on record. This new album is going to be her sixth, following the release four four studio records and two EPs as one half of Azure Ray. Performing solo since 2005, Taylor has been working and collaborating with the likes of Joshua Radin, Jim Eno and Michael Stipe.
Talented, talented lady.
Check out the lead track from her 2013 album Something About Knowing in “Folk Song Melody” below while we await the release of In The Next Life (due out December 9th).
Keep up to date with Maria HERE.
