While in town for the Falls Festival and some very well-received headline dates, Gary Clark Jr. sat down with Sose to have a chat about how 2015 treated him. Not only did he release another killer record in The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, but Gary also became a dad when son Zion was born in 2015. He chats with the AU about balancing being an in-demand touring musician with his new parenting duties, as well as how this new record has been to play live!
“It’s been great,” he says. “I had a lot of fun in the studio recording the album, but I also love to get on stage and play with these guys. I like hanging around with them for a certain reason and I love the way they interpret music and throw their own things in it; we just throw it in the set and it seems to mesh pretty cool and people are digging it! It seems to be an ever-evolving musical journey, so we’re just gonna keep rocking with it, it’s good.”
For this particular trip, Gary was excited to have his fiancée Nic Trunfio and baby Zion out in Australia with him, noting that the family joins him on tour whenever they can.
“There’s music, there’s good energy and there’s young ones running around at some of these things,” he says. “I think it’s great for him to have that experience and be able to soak up so many vibes and so many different energies at such a young age, so nothing’s shocking to him when he’s grown!”
