Originally from the Sunshine Coast, and now based in the UK, Australian duo Star Kendrick & Toma Banjanin make up the rising outfit Geowulf. They’re in Austin this week to play at the iconic SXSW event, with a run of appearances that includes our very own showcase at the event, which is happening this Thursday night. We caught up with Star from the duo to find out more about their run of shows at SXSW and learn more about the project…
Who are you, what is your act and how would you best describe your act to someone who has never heard or seen you before?
We’re Geowulf. Little bit of dream, folky, indie pop.
What are your anticipations for your first ever SXSW?
Have fun, meet some nice people and buy some cool new boots!
What advice have people given you leading into the event?
There’s a lot of traffic so allow time! And also to play as much as possible which I think worked out! We’ve got seven shows!
What have been the highlights of the last 12 months?
We recorded our second album in Melbourne over Christmas. Other than that Toma has set up his own studio in London so have enjoyed writing in a new space.
What are your plans for the year ahead, post SXSW?
Would love to come back and tour America. Also releasing a string of singles up until album number two. Will be nice to share what we’ve been working on.
What do you hope to get out of SXSW 2019?
A chance to get back to USA !
There are thousands of performances at SXSW – what makes your act unique amongst the pack?
Our music is quite honest and raw. We hope people can connect to it because of that.
And of those thousands of other performances, are there any that you’d recommend we all catch (other than your own of course).

Work in progress. Off our first album. It was the song that lead us into writing for second album.
