Get “Bound” by FourPlay String Quartet’s latest single and music video

Fresh off tour dates around the country – including a spot at Tasmania’s prestigious DARK MOFO festival alongside Sun Ra Arkestra – Australia’s rocking electric string quartet FourPlay has blessed us with a new original track titled “Bound”, highlighting a penchant for blending the band’s urgent melodies with big, dirty riffs. The unique track has been made available as a digital-only single, packaged with three archival remixes (detailed below) of classic FourPlay songs pulled from their now-rich discography made of up five studio albums and a double-remix album.

FourPlay, who have come a very long way since their jaw-dropping radical reinterpretations of songs from the likes of Radiohead and Leonard Cohen, are in the midst of a major comeback following 2014’s well-received This Machine, an album which was the first to completely feature original material composed by the talented collectives four members: brothers Peter and Tim Hollo, Lara Goodridge and Shenzo Gregorio.

“Bound”, produced by FourPlay alongside Justin Tresidder (Mary Gray, Wolfmother), is a sure-shot way to propel the band back into the hearts and minds of music lovers across the country; the single was born from a riff inspired by Jack White and Beyoncé, rolling out progressively from a jam the band wrote while they were guests of the Bundanon Trust’s Artist-In-Residency program in the endlessly picturesque Southern Highlands of NSW. The result is fantastic, representing a new direction buoyed by jazzy vocals from Lara tackling commonality and responsibility with style and grace as a furious soundscape ushers in rollicking guitars and culminates in a crazed viola solo.

The track has been accompanied by a decidedly dark and evocative music video, taking place in an empty dive bar as all four members stood out magnificently against red mood lighting and puffs of smoke. Check it out below and make sure you get straight on the digital-only single, as those aforementioned archival remixes include “Evolve or Decay (Monk Fly Remix)” by Chris Hancock, “The Hunter (The Quickening – Comatone Remix) by Greg Seiler, and “Trust (One Wrong 2-Step Remix) by Raven (a solo project from FourPlay’s cellist Peter Hollo).
