We get to know the bands playing our 6th Birthday Party in Melbourne next Tuesday night… first up is Martin King, best known as one half of Oscar + Martin. He’ll be pumping out a live set on the night so let’s take a moment to learn a bit more about the man himself:
Who I am: It’s me, Martin King. Juliet Rowe often lends her beautiful voice to my live set, and we have some singles we hope to release soon!!
How I started this project: I’ve been doing music forever, in my bands The Harpoons and Oscar + Martin… only recently been doing my solo thing though. I went to High School with Juliet, but apart from a couple of JT covers we did together in our school band (!!!!) we’ve only recently started playing together…
We Sound Like: …well one time, I was DJing at rooftop, and at the end of the night put on a master I’d just received of a track featuring Juliet, and this Scottish guy and his girlfriend, who were the last people there came up and were like “…this is amazing! It sounds exactly like BANKS! I love BANKS!” and to be honest I’ve only really heard one BANKS track, so I don’t really know if that’s true at all. It was a remix by Friend Within, and ah it was pretty good, although maybe that’s just because Friend Within is a genius. If I could sound like that id be happy. Seriously, listen to this:
