With Australian Music Week now underway, we decided we should get to know some of the incredible artists set to perform! So without further ado, let’s find out a little more about Lillyè, Ry, Hannah Cameron and Tenderfoot…
Lillyè
Who are you, what band do you play in and what do you do in that band?
My name is Virginia Lillye and I am the lead singer of Lillyè.
How would you best describe your sound?
Mashing of Skunk Anansie, Tool and Halestorm together, delivered with passion, venom and a big cheeky grin.
If we were to listen to one song from your band, what should it be?
The single for our latest video release, “Who I’m Meant To Be”.
What has been your highlight of the year so far, as a band?
Heading over to the Middle East to play for the troops.
What is the best thing about being a musician?
Being true to yourself.
What’s the hardest thing about being a musician?
Lack of funds.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you had been told before you started making music?
There’s nothing actually… I think making mistakes and discovering things is vitally important in building character in a person. And in turn, a song is born!
What’s one other artist on the lineup we should all see, and what’s a song you love by that artist?
Juice. Would have to be “Sky High”. Have heard some of their new stuff which sounds great. We are looking forward to a new album hopefully next year!

Ry
Who are you, what band do you play in and what do you do in that band?
My name is Ry and I’m a Hip-Hop/Rap artist from Melbourne. I’m a solo act, I provide the raps and vocals.
How would you best describe your sound?
Melodic, mellow but catchy…
If we were to listen to one song from you, what should it be?
“Torn Denim”. It’s the opener on my latest EP and it’s the one I’m proud of.
What has been your highlight of the year so far, as an artist?
Winning Channel [V]’s Discover Comp was pretty cool, getting New Artist Spotlight on iTunes was great too.
What is the best thing about being a musician?
Receiving messages from fans saying thanks for making music that they listen to with their friends, or saying it’s helped them get through a rough time.
What’s the hardest thing about being a musician?
Musicians are always their own harshest critic, finding that balance of knowing when something is truly ready is an art form in itself…
What’s one piece of advice you wish you had been told before you started making music?
Save every single penny you possibly can because you’re about to burn through it quicker than the Kardashians on a shopping spree. Seriously though, once you’ve got great music you want to compliment that with great videos, pictures and content – and in most cases, that’s not cheap.
What’s one other artist on the lineup we should all see, and what’s a song you love by that artist?
Definitely Tuka, I’ve been meaning to catch a show of his for a while now. I hope he plays “Yeah Right”.
Tell us when we can see you at AMW!
I’ll be performing on Saturday 21st November @ Northies Beachside Hotel w/ Tuka, Mind Over Matter & Ivan Ooze. I’m on at 8PM sharp.
You can stay up to date with Ry on Facebook.
Hannah Cameron
Who are you, what band do you play in and what do you do in that band?
My name is Hannah Cameron. I write and perform under my own name, sometimes with a band, sometimes without.
How would you best describe your sound?
I describe it as Alternative-Folk, which is sort of intentionally ambiguous because I find defining genre to be a really tricky (and in many ways limiting) thing. The expanded description would probably be ‘folk meets classical with shades of country, bluegrass, rock and jazz’.
If we were to listen to one song from you, what should it be?
“This Thing” is the lead single from my album and it’s probably a good example of the amalgamation of influences mentioned above.
What has been your highlight of the year so far, as an artist?
I think putting out my debut album Blow My House Down would be at the top of the list.
What is the best thing about being a musician?
For me, it’s being able to capture a feeling or a moment in a way that might resonate with someone you’ve never met. I think the ability to articulate and express what you are experiencing and for that to be something that can be shared with an audience is an incredible thing.
What’s the hardest thing about being a musician?
Being an independent musician means there’s a lot of time dedicated to doing things that have nothing to do with making music. That’s something that I definitely struggle with – the desire to be creating being in constant competition with the necessity for what you’ve created to be heard.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you had been told before you started making music?
I feel like it’s probably best to go into music not knowing what’s ahead. It may be a breeze or it may be a struggle, but you definitely learn a lot from the struggle.
What’s one other artist on the lineup we should all see, and what’s a song you love by that artist?
I think Sarah Belkner is really great. Her latest single “Susanne” is pretty sublime.

How would you best describe your sound?
Think Tom Petty, The Band, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Coldplay. Something like that.
If we were to listen to one song from your band, what should it be?
“The Scenery”.
What has been your highlight of the year so far, as a band?
Our first sold out show, which was at Brighton Up Bar earlier this month.
What is the best thing about being a musician?
Being able to do what I what I love.
What’s the hardest thing about being a musician?
Making it work but you can, it’s a good life.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you had been told before you started making music?
Everyone tells you it’s a hard life or a hard road or whatever. Which is true, so I guess I was given it.
What’s one other artist on the lineup we should all see, and what’s a song you love by that artist?
Andy Golledge. He’s got heaps of amazing songs. “Baby Mama”, “Dreaming of a Highway”, “Skip the Winter”…
