Guest Playlist: Yawdoesitall and Tawanda take us through the tracks which have influenced them

Yawdoesitall

Sydney emcee Yawdoesitall has started the year with the release of a smoking new track, “Test Drive”, featuring the vocals of fellow Sydney-side producer Tawanda. This is a tune with an infectious beat and gives off some serious vibes. The two vocalists bounce off each other, complementing each other perfectly.

Producer Miiner provided the beat which the tune was built on, and it was recorded in Sydney’s New Age Studio.

Yaw gave some insight into how they came to put this track together “This is a fun song we made right before my solo show at Oxford {Art Factory] in 2020. Contrary to popular belief, we felt being a rapper came with a demand to have it all and own all the coolest stuff. With ‘Test Drive’, we say “Pull up with a Chevy/And it not mine”, as we debunk these flashy expectations by actually stating the struggle of being cool, but having to borrow or rent some of the stuff we use. A mockery, but also a fun way to go back and forth with Tawanda, verse by verse. This is such a different track for me and validates my ability to jump on every record and still keep it Yaw.”

Yaw has some shows in March at The Vanguard in Sydney to launch “Test Drive” – check below for details

To celebrate the release of “Test Drive”, Yaw and Tawanda have put together a playlist of some of their favourite tunes, and in particularly tunes which they have found inspiring. Have a listen, and read on as to their thoughts about them.

YAWDOESITALL

IC3 – Ghetts, Skepta
This is a highly anticipated feature track and they both came through with energy and cadence that leaves you speechless. Not to talk about the back and forth and wordplay. This is the first track I play in the morning.

Hollyhood (ft. Kent Jamz) – Buddy
This is a song I wish I made. Just because it’s so perfect and has similar music elements to mine. A simple banger

97′ – Kojey Radical
Kojey is such a poet and this tied his poetry with great performance. This is a song i cover during my shows as its fire and also represents so much

Get Used To It (ft. Kojey Radical) – Ebenezer
Another track with Kojey and this time Ebenezer brings it home with great support and bars. Another banger

True Love (ft. Tay Iwar and Projexx) – Wizkid
This is such a spiritual song. This is Wizkids best in my opinion as I haven’t seen him write as good. He went all out for this album and Juls’ production sets the mood for such a great and beautiful song

I Can’t Breathe – Jerome Farah
Prior to meeting Jerome a couple of times, I never thought I would hear such a masterpiece from such a great talent. He spoke truth and came through honestly with great performance. This is Grammy award music.

TAWANDA

Money trees – Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock
For as long as I can remember I’ve loved this song. What I love about the song the most is the intimate storytelling. It makes you feel like you were there, growing up with him. Seamlessly going through the story, from one experience to the next.

hooligan – Baby Keem
The simple yet vibey and catchy track catches my attention from the beginning. In that track what stands out the most for me is the whistle and the level of lyricism that’s fun yet insightful.
What I love the most about this track is the level of artistry that it presents. A chill yet high-intensity track with the lyricism to match it. Showing the diversity of music and blurring between genres to give an inspirational and catchy song.

Show Stop – REASON
An energetic yet simple track. Super tight and in the pocket flows that make you want to vibe with the track.

Dreams, Fairytales, Fantasies (ft. Brent Faiyaz, Salaam Remi) – A$AP Ferg
The old school influence stands out a lot from me. ASAP Ferg seamlessly grinds through the track with the beautiful vocal of Brent in the Chorus and as backup vocals. Brent’s harmonies are absolutely mesmerising.

These Walls (ft. Bilal, Anna Wise, Thundercat) – Kendrick Lamar
An enchanting and descriptive track with an insurmountable amount of lyricism and sauce. The track always has something to get your attention, be it the lyrics or the beat itself. It’s definitely one of a kind.
