Nestled in what we can only assume was the ground level of a car park on the west side of Austin’s downtown, UK electronic outfit Hot Chip tonight played the third and final night of the Samsung Milk Music Lounge as part of the 2015 SXSW Music Festival, following on from sets by Australia’s Iggy Azalea and A$AP Rocky on Wednesday and Thursday nights respectively.
Performing as a seven piece, the UK outfit played something of a greatest hits set during their 80 minute set; from “Over and Over” to “Ready For The Floor” and “Boy From School”, the favourites were all represented and sounded better than ever as Austin’s now famous Tito’s Vodka was flowing. Along the way, the group previewed several songs off their new record Why Make Sense?, due out on 18th May 2015, including the record’s title track and “Love is the Future”, both played tonight in North America for the first time.
While the high energy performance (with plenty of drum jams no less) marked the end of the Samsung venue – at least as it has currently been announced (always expect the unexpected here in Austin) – SXSW has one more day of full festivities tomorrow before closing up shop on Sunday. Stay tuned to the AU for all the action!
