Today, Melbourne’s Alexander Biggs releases his long awaited debut EP, Still You Sharpen Your Teeth, six tracks of music exemplary of his developed writing technique and evocative musical stylings. We’ve been following Biggs for a couple of years now, and to see him not only release this significant record but also now focus on what is new and still on the horizon, creatively, it’s made us super excited.
We were able to sit down with Biggs while at BIGSOUND last week to chat about how his writing has changed now his music has reached more people and the hype surrounding him has continued to grow outside his hometown.
“I feel like I have definitely progressed.” he agrees. “I am really excited about writing and I’m really keen to get music like this out. I really think it is a progression, a healthy one; I feel really good about it.”
Of the healthy Melbourne scene for songwriters and solo artists, Biggs comments on the quality of music coming out of his city and his place within the growing community.
“I think it’s exciting as a songwriter because people are appreciating the art of a good song. It’s a lot harder to get subpar songwriting past people these days, which I think is great. I have a profound respect for the craft and I’m a big fanatic of a really good song. I love that there’s all these incredible people, especially from Melbourne, getting known and getting appreciated for making good art. It’s exciting.”
